Manchester is poised to become the epicentre of luxury fashion as Chanel hosts its annual Métiers d’Art show in the city’s iconic Northern Quarter. The show is scheduled to start at 5 pm and run until 8 pm, followed by an afterparty for the fashion elite at Victoria Baths. Spare invites? Send them our way.
Manchester has long been applauded for its wealth of creativity, individuality, and style. Whether in TV and film, music, or fashion, the northern city has dominated UK pop culture for decades, making it fitting for such an event to be held there. Chanel captured the sentiment perfectly in their promotional social posts: “Chanel has chosen to present the 2023/2024 Métiers d’art show in Manchester, one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture and an avant-garde one, whose brands, spanning all genres, have changed the history of music.” With this in mind, we expect to see references to music legends from Joy Division, Oasis, New Order, The Smiths - hey, throw Take That into the mix!
The city and social media have been abuzz over the past few months with speculation on the location and who could be descending on the city. If the canopy erected on Thomas Street wasn’t a dead giveaway, then BTS-style TikTok posts taken by locals, certainly confirmed it. Come 5 pm, this already vibrant street will come to life as the 600-strong guest list descends. Fashion greats, A-listers, and industry icons have already been spotted around the city centre, from actress Kristen Stewart outside the Stock Exchange Hotel, to our personal favourite, Kate Moss, spotted in Ancoats' Aldi (is that her though?). We’ve been living for the content, but more so, the response by local businesses that have embraced the event with typical Northern humour and hospitality.
As neighbours, we’re proud to see Manchester—a Northern city—finally acknowledged and showcased on a world stage for the voices and creativity we know are bursting at the seams. It feels like high fashion is finally catching up and realising that it really is better up north.
The film of the runway will be released tomorrow at 9am, so head over to Chanel's website to check it out. In true Luxe Collective style, our social team will be covering the event, so head across to our socials to find out more.
